Interview with Sylvia Tosun

Sylvia Tosun_Press photo (9)Why did you choose the song that you covered? What does it mean to you?
I chose “Wall of Silence” not only because of its haunting melody and intensely emotional chord progressions but, also because the words express something very true and pure about how we move through our lives with relationships meaning something different as the years go by…The reflection of the whole song is rewarding on many levels…

How did you arrange the song to make it your own, fresh song?
I was lucky enough to have worked with Emil Adler, himself, on this song as he arranged it, giving it a fresh meaning, while directing my performance in a way we both felt great about.

What are you doing now?
Focusing on songwriting and always trying to stay as long as possible in a creative state of mind. Having been primarily immersed as an artist in the Electronic Dance Music genre the past several years, I have had the opportunity to work with some great international DJ/Producers. I even got to showcase a bit of my Operatic vocal background on a recent single that was championed by #1 Trance DJ, Armin van Buuren. Besides my own personal artistry, I also own an independent record label, Sea to Sun Recordings. With the label I get to promote and showcase an eclectic roster of talent including Traci Lords (yes, THAT Traci Lords), NYC DJ/Producers Sted-E & Hybrid Heights, and a talented young singer songwriter, Joshua Micah.

Who or what are your current inspirations?
Peter Gabriel and Genesis have always been close to heart as musical inspirations but, I am equally inspired by beauty in any of its forms whether it be the perfect bloom of a simple flower or feeling the collective energy in a room full of people who feel the same way about something…

Who would play you in the ideal movie version of your life, and what would the title of that movie be?
Natalie Portman – “Black Swan…….(and sometimes White Swan)”
